πΎ Rascal’s Roadshow πΎ

After leaving Silver Lake, we headed to the Astoria/Warrenton/Seaside
KOA—just two hours away. I specifically chose this route to avoid the
terrifying-looking Astoria-Megler Bridge! This bridge is a whopping 4 miles
long with a wild 360-degree spiral loop on one end, soaring 200 feet high
before dropping to a more comfortable level just above the water. π± No thank you!
But long before bypassing that nightmare, we stopped at a little
place called Porky’s Public House & Eatery in Longview,
Washington, to fuel up our tummies. The lovely Miss Vanessa served us a
delicious meal while we enjoyed fresh flowers on the table and a cozy
atmosphere. Bonus: They have a pastry chef! The dessert selection was phenomenal! We managed to park the truck and trailer in the lot—thanks to a bit
of luck. One side was completely empty, and Todd was able to slip us in. If the
cars had been spaced differently, we might have had to pass this one up. But if
you’re in the area, definitely stop by! πππΌ
After cruising through the beautiful coastal town of Astoria, we still
had one bridge to cross—this time over Youngs Bay. Thankfully, this bridge was
a reasonable height - just above the water... as all bridges should be
in my humble opinion! π
We knew our new “home” was going to be special when we passed elk right before the entrance! We saw them several times during our stay π¦✨ We often stay at KOA parks and get a
10% discount through the KOA Rewards program. If you’re planning to travel
often, it’s worth looking into travel memberships like KOA Rewards, Good Sam
Club, Thousand Trails, Passport America, and Harvest Hosts. They can save you
serious π΅ while offering awesome perks!
This KOA is a KOA Resort, which means extra amenities—like an
indoor and outdoor pool! π¦ I adore pools, love to swim, and
anything water-related... but we were too busy sightseeing to dip a toe in
either one. π© The park itself is huge, with a great
activity area for kids, a large gift shop, and a super-friendly staff. We
absolutely loved our visit to this part of Oregon, and this KOA was the perfect
base for all our adventures. In fact, there’s so much to share, I’m
turning this into a 2- or 3-part blog! π️

On our first full day, we hit the ground running (or splashing!) and
visited several beaches and lakes as Todd scouted potential fishing spots.
There’s nothing quite like the joy of seeing the ocean again! π Rascal LOVES the sand—it's
soft on his paws, and I think it reminds him of all our beach walks in Moss
Landing, California πΆπ
He was thrilled checking out all the watering holes we stopped at: the
South Jetty where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean, spots along the
Columbia River, Clatsop Beach (often confused with nearby Delaura Beach),
Trestle Bay, and Coffenbury Lake. Each place had its own unique charm... but
spoiler alert: Todd caught nothing. Zip. Nada. Totally skunked! π£❌
But as I always tell him—there are guys stuck in cubicles banging their
heads on keyboards who would give anything to sit beside the water and
catch nothing. π It’s all about the peace and the
view!
π More Eats, Please! π
Vanessa from Porky’s mentioned that her family visits the Astoria area
every summer and raved about Bubba’s Sports Bar & Grill—specifically
the pizza. We spotted the place and stopped in. When we stepped inside, it was
definitely a bar, so we slipped next door into the attached restaurant: Fultano’s
Pizza. π

| A very pouty Rascal in the truck. Sorry buddy, no doggies allowed. |
The bar looked like a fun spot for those wanting to grab a drink and
watch the game, but we were in the mood for a quiet bite. And yes... that was
pineapple on our pizza! π Deal with it! π The pizza was delicious, and we took
home dessert—lemon cake for me π and carrot cake for Todd π₯—to nibble on later.
The staff let us know that the area’s population booms during the
summer, so be aware if you're planning a visit during peak season. Whether you
want pizza or a game-day beer, both Bubba’s and Fultano’s are worth checking
out!
I’m a huge fan of the Little Free Library movement ππ I got the idea to start one of my own
and ordered a kit from Amazon: Little Library Box Kit
I painted it with my own design, added cute mouse decals π, sealed it with Mod Podge, and
stocked it with some gently used books I picked up at the Show Low Library.
It's been riding around in the trailer with us for weeks—just waiting for the
right spot to debut.
Astoria KOA felt like the perfect place—lots of foot traffic and a
convenient bench to set it on. As I was setting it up, a park employee walked
by and said, “What a cool idea!” That made my heart happy π Sadly, there were no takers during
our visit, but I’m not discouraged!
Once we’re back in Show Low, I’ll pick up a proper stand to raise it to a
more user-friendly height—no stooping necessary! I was also totally encouraged
when, on the day we checked out, the young lady at the front desk said, “You’re
the one with the library!” She told me she loves to read and that I should never
stop sharing it with others. She truly made my day!
