Rascal’s Roadshow:
Exploring Sequim, Freshwater Bay &
Neah Bay
Before we hit the road full-time, Todd and I seriously
considered moving to the charming town of Sequim, near Port Angeles. I
retired in 2012 and Todd followed four years later. Back then, we dreamed about
Sequim’s mild weather, laid-back vibe, and famous lavender fields. π Although we arrived a bit too early this season to see those purple blooms in
full glory, this visit reminded us just how much we still love the area.

Otters, Oopsies & Unexpected Detours
Todd spent a relaxing (though fish-free) day casting his line—and got a surprise visit from a couple of playful otters! π¦¦

The following day, we took a scenic drive to Sequim, planning to visit a lighthouse
we thought was located at Cline Spit County Park. Oops… it turns out the
lighthouse is actually on Dungeness Spit! π

| We were on the little spit where that red pin is... the lighthouse was on the MUCH larger spit! |
After a quick Google check, we learned that reaching the Dungeness
Lighthouse requires a 4-hour, 11-mile round trip walk! It’s been in
continuous operation since 1857, which is amazing—but honestly, that hike
wasn’t happening. Not even Rascal (who normally has boundless energy) was up
for that kind of trek! ππ¦Ί
Still, Cline Spit was lovely! Rascal happily dug his paws
into the sand, chased a few seagulls, and reminded me of our beach walks back
in California. Soft sand, salty air, and seagulls? That’s his jam! πΎπ

A Missed Opportunity (But Not Forever!)
On the way to our next stop, we spotted a sign for the Olympic
Game Farm—a self-guided drive-through tour where you can see
bison, bears, yaks, and more. Unfortunately, we had already made plans and
didn’t have time to stop… but you better believe it’s on our list for next
time! ππ¦ If you're in the area, check it out
and let me know what you think!
π
Freshwater Bay
Freshwater Bay
absolutely stole my heart. It reminded me so much of Lover’s Point in
Pacific Grove, California—a spot we used to bike to just for the views. π

| While we didn't get to kayak here, this nice young couple were trying out their kayaks for the first time, looked like they had fun! |
We spent a peaceful afternoon here. We decided to return a day later with the kayaks, but didn’t make it back. Next trip! Rascal got some off-leash time to stretch his legs and sprint through the sand. πΆ
I strolled along the shore collecting shells and sea-polished rocks, breathing
in that glorious ocean breeze. If you’re craving a calming moment in nature,
Freshwater Bay is pure bliss. ππͺ¨

Neah Bay
The winding road to Neah Bay led us through
moss-draped forests and stunning coastal scenery. We didn’t realize until we
arrived that Neah Bay is part of the Makah Reservation—a unique cultural
gem at nearly the northwesternmost tip of the continental U.S.!
As we reached the end of the town, we stopped to gaze out
over the water—just in time to spot half a dozen bald eagles soaring
overhead. It was an unforgettable sight. π¦
✨
On our way back to Elwha RV Park, we stumbled upon
another gorgeous, unnamed beach with tidepools teeming with sea life, uprooted
driftwood, and even more treasures for my growing shell collection. ππ²
Every beach in the Pacific Northwest feels like a hidden treasure, and the salty air is truly rejuvenating. If you’re ever up this way, stop anywhere the ocean meets the land—you won’t be disappointed! π

Dining Out? Don’t Mind If We Do!
Before leaving Port Angeles, we treated ourselves to a couple of local restaurants. We really do cook for ourselves (and Todd is an amazing chef! π¨π³), but sometimes dining out is just easier... and way more fun to talk about with you! No prep, no cleanup, no problem! π

Port Angeles Restaurant Reviews: One Happy, One “Hmm…”
Exploring the coast works up an appetite, so of course we
had to try a couple of local spots while in Port Angeles. Here's our take on
two popular restaurants—we each had different favorites, but both places were
worth the stop!

Woodfire Grill
Todd absolutely loved his seafood dish here—it was
fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated. ππ€
I, on the other hand, wasn’t quite as thrilled with my chicken. It was cooked
well, but it turned out to be dark meat, and I prefer white meat. I probably
should have looked more closely at the meal description or just asked before
ordering.
But let’s talk dessert—because that was a slam dunk! π°π¨
Absolutely delicious, and the service was top-notch. The restaurant itself has
a cozy, boutique feel with warm decor and a polished, upscale vibe. We’d go
back just for dessert and the ambiance alone!

Chestnut
Cottage Restaurant
This sweet little spot really leans into the “cottage”
charm—it’s clean, beautifully decorated, and welcoming. The moment we walked
in, I knew I was going to love it! πΌπͺ
And I did! My food was fantastic—every bite was
comforting and flavorful. Todd didn’t fall in love with his main dish, but he
made up for it by raving about his scone. π§
And my bran berry muffin? Absolutely amazing.
So yummy that I forgot to get photos before we dug in!
Our waitress, Khloe, was outstanding—friendly, helpful, and
attentive. It’s definitely the kind of place I’d recommend if you want a
relaxing, homey meal in a cheerful setting.

We’re already dreaming about our next visit to this
beautiful part of Washington. Until then, Todd, Rascal and I will keep chasing
seagulls, collecting seashells, and making memories—one pawprint at a time. πΎπ
